Welcome to the EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Course & Symposium on “Amoebiasis: Exploring the Biology and the Pathogenesis of Entamoeba” to be held during March 2-3, 2012 (lecture course) in New Delhi and 4-7, 2012 (symposium) at the temple town of Khajuraho located in central India.
Historically, a series of symposia on Amoebiasis, known as “Seminar on Amebiasis”, were held in Mexico providing the only platform for dissemination of latest research on the subject.
The excellent Seminar series continue to be organized in Mexico every 2-3 years. However, it was felt that there is a need to organize more frequent meetings on Amebiasis and if these are held in different parts of the world there is a possibility that there will be more participation, particularly from nearby regions.
The past conferences were held at Bethesda, Hamburg, Agra, Dead Sea, Paris, Amsterdam and Montreal. European Molecular Biology Organization or EMBO has been generous in partly supporting many of these meetings along with other sponsors. We gratefully acknowledge the offer of their support along with Indian National Science Academy for helping to organize Amoebiasis2012.
The lecture course will be held in New Delhi and would cover fundamentals of amoebiasis and the biology of the parasite Entamoeba histolytica, covering areas, such as pathogenesis, genomics, diagnosis, animal models and basic molecular and cellular biology. This will be essentially for students who are working in this and related fields. In the symposium to be held at Khajuraho, we plan to discuss different aspects of the parasite and the disease including, pathogenesis, epidemiology, host-pathogen relations, cell and molecular biology, genomics and related areas, structural biology, diagnosis and treatment. There will be scope for both oral and poster presentations.
We expect this to be a memorable conference and hope you will enjoy the science and the environ.
We are pleased to invite you to participate in the lecture course and symposium, and are looking forward to welcoming you in India!
